Mario Ortiz, founder of The Chestnut Group, is a certified professional coach and member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). He holds certifications from the American School of Professional Coaching and the International Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching. He also volunteers with The Honor Foundation, a program that supports U.S. Special Forces members transitioning into the private sector.

Mario’s extensive career spans public service, media, and executive leadership. He attained the rank of Senior Executive Service—the highest rank in the Federal Government—where he led large organizations, built strategic partnerships, and championed the career development of hundreds of colleagues. From 2000 to 2004, he served in a diplomatic capacity at the American Embassy in Singapore. He has also lived and worked in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado.

Before his federal career, Mario worked in broadcasting, beginning at a hometown radio station and later serving as a TV news anchor for a CBS affiliate in Austin, TX. These experiences shaped his expertise in public speaking, media communications, and community engagement—skills he now shares through creative public speaking sessions offered by The Chestnut Group.

Mario’s coaching journey has been both professional and deeply personal. Inspired by every individual he meets, he brings a calm, steady presence and a commitment to helping people explore future possibilities. His approach is rooted in connection—creating a safe, confidential space where growth and transformation can occur.

Based in San Antonio, Texas, Mario enjoys life with his wife Stacy, four sons, and their growing families. Grounded in faith, family, and fitness, he believes that while we cannot predict the future, we can shape it—and he partners with clients on their journey—imagining opportunities, embracing growth, and mapping out a path forward that aligns with their goals.
